The Earth’s crust is broken up into giant pieces called tectonic plates. Tectonic plates are constantly moving creating new landforms and ocean floor crust. There are 3 types of tectonic plate movement: Convergent Boundaries- plates move towards each other. Divergent Boundary- plates move away from each other. Transform boundary- plates slide past each other. Sea floor spreading is responsible for new ocean crust and mid-ocean ridges. Ocean crust slowly moves towards ocean trenches and eventually is subducted into the mantle.
